It’s a very stable and comfortable position and ideal for babies with reflux.

The wrap I’m using in these photos is a woven (non-stretchy) fabric, 4.8 metres long and about 70 centimetres wide. If your wrap is made of stretchy fabric, then it’s preferable to follow the instructions you’ll find here.

1. Hold the centre of the fabric in front of you and spread your arms, letting the fabric fall in front of you. Then wrap it around your chest towards your back.

2. With one hand keep the front part taut, and with the other wrap the fabric around your back and bring it to the opposite side in front of you.

3. Throw this end over your shoulder and arm. Make sure the fabric isn’t twisted (folded) anywhere but is well spread out across your back.

4. Do the same on the other side, wrapping it too behind your back and towards your shoulder.

5. Throw this end too over your other shoulder in front of you.

6. The two sides will “cross” on your back, forming an X.

7. Now you’ll have the two ends hanging vertically in front of you from your shoulders, and a horizontal section in front of your chest, which you’ll open from the top. That’s where (between your chest and the fabric) you’ll place your baby.

8. Hold your baby high on your shoulder.

9. With one hand, open the fabric in front of you and slowly lower your baby down between you and the fabric, into the opening.

10. You’ll let their legs come out of the lower side and you’ll rest your baby against your chest. Keep supporting their head with your hand.

11. Holding your baby with one hand, pull the edge of the fabric that’s near your neck. This will tighten the fabric under your armpit on the opposite side (over your baby’s shoulder).

12. Now pull the other end on the same side (the one near your arm). This will tighten the fabric under your baby’s knee on the other side.

13. Do the same on the other side. One end tightens the fabric over the baby’s other shoulder too.

15. Make sure once more that you’ve tightened your wrap well, holding the baby with one hand and pulling the ends with the other.

16. Holding the two ends of the wrap stretched away from you should normally be enough to keep your baby where you’ve placed them.

From this point there are two ways to continue:

A. With “side” straps:

If your baby is a newborn and very light (or if the fabric is very warm and you don’t want to “wrap up” too much!):

17. Keep the fabric well stretched and bring the ends down, to the right and left of your baby.

18. Cross the ends under the baby’s bottom and guide them behind your back, where you’ll tie a knot. Alternatively, you can tie the knot in front, under the baby’s bottom.

19. If you like, you can roll the upper part of the fabric into a “roll” behind the baby’s neck for better support.

20. You’re ready to go out and about. Make sure at every step that the child’s legs are open and that their knees are higher than their bottom.

B. With the ends spread crosswise in front of you:

If your baby is heavy and you need more support:

… continuing from step 16:

17. Keep one end stretched in your hand and spread the other end of the fabric well under your baby. You should open it up enough so that it reaches from one of the baby’s knees to the other.

18. Pass this end under the baby’s leg.

19. Do the same with the other side. The two sides will cross under the baby’s bottom, forming an X.

20. When both ends are well stretched and spread out under the baby, guide them behind your back.

21. Tie a knot there behind your back.

22. If the knot on your back bothers you (or if you plan to sit down and it presses into your lower back), you can tie the fabric at your side, over your hip. In this case you can start not from the centre of the fabric, but leave one side a bit longer!

23. You’re ready to go out and about. Make sure at every step that the child’s legs are open and that their knees are higher than their bottom.

back: Instructions with a wrap

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]

Double Cross with a horizontal support section (with a wrap made of woven fabric) Their legs should be fairly open and their knees bent and high, at least at the same height as the bottom.
