For it to be practical and comfortable, we should choose it keeping a few key points in mind.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>It should adjust exactly the way I want.<\/strong> We often say: \u00abThe carrier must adjust to the baby. Not the baby to the carrier.\u00bb I should be able to place my baby a little higher or lower, a bit tighter or looser, with the head more in or more out. And I should be able to do this <strong>while I am wearing it<\/strong>, without taking it off.<\/li>\n<li><strong>I should be able to put it on without help.<\/strong> If I needed help, I would just say \u00abhold the baby while I get things done\u00bb! That is exactly why I want a carrier \u2014 <strong>so I don\u2019t need help<\/strong>. It must be easy to put on and <strong>not take much time<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>It should suit me.<\/strong> Choosing a carrier is a very <strong>personal<\/strong> matter. What worked for my friend may not work for me. Some prefer tying, others prefer buckling.<\/li>\n<li><strong>It should be high-quality and ergonomic.<\/strong> I need peace of mind that my baby is <strong>definitely safe<\/strong>, in the correct position. The materials must be safe, tested and suitable for babies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"bw-faq-card\" id=\"faq-2\">\n<div class=\"bw-faq-q\">\n<div class=\"bw-faq-num\">2<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"bw-faq-title\">What do we mean by an \u00abergonomic carrier\u00bb?<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"bw-faq-body\">\n<p>An ergonomic carrier lets the baby keep their <strong>natural posture<\/strong>, just as they would in our arms. With a wrap (woven or stretchy), a ring sling, or some mei tais, we can wear our baby from the very first day.<\/p>\n<p>There are, however, carriers (usually with buckles) that are pre-adjusted, for which we must follow the manufacturer\u2019s guidance on age\/weight limits. Usually the restriction has to do with how far the carrier can be downsized.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"bw-faq-card\" id=\"faq-4\">\n<div class=\"bw-faq-q\">\n<div class=\"bw-faq-num\">4<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"bw-faq-title\">Can I carry my baby facing outward in an ergonomic carrier?<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"bw-faq-body\">\n<p>Just like with car seats: with the right carrier and at the right age, yes. We can carry the baby <strong>facing outward<\/strong> if the carrier supports that position. There are much <strong>better positions for the baby to look around<\/strong>. Usually the limits set by the manufacturer are not about the carrier\u2019s strength, but about the endurance of the person wearing it. When it says e.g. \u00abup to 20 kg\u00bb, it doesn\u2019t mean the carrier will break at 21 kg \u2014 it means it\u2019s not right for us to carry that much weight for a long time.<\/p>\n<p>A child may want to be held even long after they start walking. Most ergonomic carriers support this. So for the baby there is no time limit. Consider that there are babies who wear a special orthopedic brace in exactly this position (and wear it all day long!).<\/p>\n<p>The only limit is ours \u2014 our own stamina. In practice, we very rarely hold the baby in our arms for a long stretch without sitting down. We say \u00abI hold them all day\u00bb \u2014 but in reality, holding them without sitting lasts five to ten minutes at a time.<\/p>\n<p>With a good carrier we might \u00ablose track\u00bb: it is so comfortable that we wear it continuously for much longer, doing other things at the same time, and the time flies. Holding our baby is what helps: us with our <strong>hormones<\/strong>, our baby, the connections in the brain, the baby\u2019s development.
