Newborns in a baby carrier

Ten options to choose an ergonomic baby carrier for your newborn:

See them all in detail below:

Newborns in a ring sling

The ring sling (Asteraki or Luna Dream) is an ergonomic baby carrier, suitable from day one (even with very small babies) up to a big age (20 kg). Your baby will have the same posture it has in every ergonomic carrier. You can wear it exactly as you like (high or low, close to you or further away); whatever you don’t like about the positioning can be done differently. It adjusts perfectly to your baby and to you. It is adjusted with rings. You’ll have your hands free while wearing your baby — you won’t need to hold it. You can breastfeed. It goes on very quickly and is very easy to wear, but you may need a little more time to learn it than other types, and it has safety rules you must follow. You can carry on your back with babies from about 6.5 months and up; the transition to the back takes experience, and until then you should have learned it well on the front.

Newborns in a mei tai

The (Asteraki) mei tai is an ergonomic baby carrier, suitable from day one (even with very small babies) up to a big age (20 kg). Your baby will have the same posture it has in every ergonomic carrier. You can wear it exactly as you like (high or low, close to you or further away); whatever you don’t like about the positioning can be done differently. It adjusts perfectly to your baby and to you. It has straps that tie. You’ll have your hands free while wearing your baby — you won’t need to hold it. You can breastfeed. It goes on very quickly and is very easy to wear. It’s almost impossible to make a safety mistake. You can carry on your back with babies from about 4 months and up; no special experience is needed, and with several methods the transition to the back is very easy and certainly safe.

Newborns in a stretchy wrap

The stretchy wrap (Lifft) is an ergonomic baby carrier, suitable from day one (even with very small babies) up to a big age. It’s ideal for very small babies, but if the baby gets quite heavy you’ll need to tie it very tightly to feel comfortable, because the baby’s weight will pull on the fabric’s elasticity. Many parents, once the baby passes 9–12 months, move to a carrier with a firm fabric for greater comfort. Your baby will have the same posture it has in every ergonomic carrier. You can wear it exactly as you like (high or low, close to you or further away); whatever you don’t like about the positioning can be done differently. It adjusts perfectly to your baby and to you. It is a long stretchy piece of fabric (2-way stretch) that is tied and folded to give you the positioning you want. You’ll have your hands free while wearing your baby — you won’t need to hold it. You can breastfeed. It splits the wearing into two stages: one where you tie the wrap onto yourself and one where you put the baby in. So, although it may take more time to put on than other types, you can have it tied on and ready. It’s very easy to wear. It’s almost impossible to make a safety mistake. It can’t be used on the back.

Newborns in a woven wrap

The woven wrap (Luna Dream, Ellevill or Asteraki) is an ergonomic baby carrier, suitable from day one (even with very small babies) up to a big age (20 kg). Your baby will have the same posture it has in every ergonomic carrier. You can wear it exactly as you like (high or low, close to you or further away); whatever you don’t like about the positioning can be done differently. It adjusts perfectly to your baby and to you. It is a long woven piece of fabric that is tied and folded to give you the positioning you want. You’ll have your hands free while wearing your baby — you won’t need to hold it. You can breastfeed. It may take more time to put on than other types and some experience to feel comfortable. There are very many ways to tie it, easier or more complex. With several of these methods it’s almost impossible to make a safety mistake. You can carry on your back with babies from about 4 months and up; most of the time experience and familiarity are needed for the transition to the back.

Comment: The best baby carrier I have ever worn

The KiBi was a much-loved ergonomic baby carrier that served thousands of parents. Unfortunately, its manufacturer has stopped production. In our showroom you can find models with similar features, such as the Ergobaby Adapt, the Luna Dream, or the KinderHop, which are just as ergonomic and ideal for newborns.
