How to Put On Your Ring Sling

The instructions below for putting on your baby carrier are detailed. In practice, the process will take you two seconds at most!

1. You need to decide on which side you want the rings to be. Hold the rings with one hand (on the side where you want the rings to be) and pass your other hand through the loop that forms. Then pass the sling over your head so that it sits diagonally across your body (like a beauty pageant sash!)

2. Your sling is now an open loop in front of you. You will use it this way for all the positions where you want the baby with their legs out. For the legs-out positions, take the bottom edge of the sling and fold it inward and upward, so that it rests against your chest. You now have a “pocket” of fabric in front of you. That is where your baby will go.

3. The top part of the sling should hug the rounded part of your shoulder (not close to your neck). The rings should be below your shoulder bone and above your chest.

4. The fabric at the back should be spread evenly across your back (not “twisted”) and should not be too bunched up.

Try to remember the points above every time you put on your baby carrier; they make a big difference to your comfort and to how easy it is to use!

Note: On the sling in the photos above, the rings are sewn with “symmetrical pleats,” which is the shoulder style that all Asteraki Slings have. This style is “open” (wide) enough to be very comfortable, without needing any adjustment before you put it on. There are, however, slings in which the shoulder is sewn in a different way, and many of them need to be “opened up” (unfolded) so that they lie well spread out over your shoulder and are comfortable. If your sling has such a shoulder style, follow the manufacturer’s instructions correctly for this purpose.
