“Burping” position (high on the shoulder) – Wrap

This position is suitable for babies from the very first day after their birth. It mimics the way we hold a newborn on our shoulder to burp it and fully supports the baby’s little head. Many babies with colic calm down only in this position!

1. Hold the fabric stretched out and open high on your back and bring the ends to the front, under your armpits.

2. Throw the ends back over your shoulders, crossing in front of your chest.

3. The ends will hang from your shoulders behind your back.

4. Grab the fabric that is on the inside (close to your body) and throw it forward again, so that it hangs in front of you, under the other side of the fabric that is behind your back.

5. Hold your baby high on your shoulder (as if you wanted to burp it) on your uncovered shoulder.

Lift up again the fabric you had let fall in front of you, over your baby.

6. Spread the fabric around your baby, guiding the end back behind your back again.

The baby’s little legs will be folded like a little frog, the way all newborn babies usually fold them.

7. Stretch the fabric so that it hugs your baby well up to its shoulders and try not to leave any loose spot behind the baby’s back. Hold your baby there with one hand, over the fabric of your wrap.

8. Keeping the fabric well stretched around your baby, grab this end behind your back and bring it forward again, under your armpit.

9. You can “catch” the end there, under your armpit, by keeping your arm tight against your side. You will need both hands for the next steps, to spread the other side of the fabric too!

10. Spreading the fabric over your baby again, stretch it towards your shoulder.

Grab the end that hangs behind your back without letting your wrap loosen at all.

11. Now you can release the end you were holding under your armpit and hold both ends tightly in your hands.

12. Tie a knot in front of you and you are ready to go for a stroll!

You can keep your baby in this position for as long as it needs to burp or to fall asleep!

13. If your baby has just eaten and tends to bring up little mouthfuls, you might want to put a burp cloth on your shoulder to avoid “accidents”.
