Appliqué designs are designs that are drawn onto paper, transferred to the fabric through a special process, then the fabric is carefully cut, hemmed so it won’t fray at the edges and so you can wash it without worry, and sewn onto the sling.
In that sense, any design without too many details could be made as an appliqué. If you have an idea that means something to you, we can discuss it and see whether we can create a new design (you don’t have to choose only from the ones we’ve already made—after all, every appliqué is absolutely unique and we can’t repeat it 100%).
Imagination and a mood to create!
What’s exciting about fabrics is the ability to create unique compositions! It’s hard to see this in the photos, but the seams, the little buttons, often cross-stitches, or deliberately left “frays” at certain points, are small touches that add a very special look and texture to your baby carrier, which will surely be unique! The printed fabrics used are also unique, and obviously the point where they’re cut gives a different result every time.
Like a collage!
If you don’t see here the design you have in mind for your Asteraki, it might be something that could be made. The condition is that it must not have fine details (e.g. complex curves and angles), must not be too small, nor have very delicate points, and can be rendered in colour with fabrics (shading, for example, cannot be done). Imagine it as if you wanted to make a collage out of coloured cardboard, without being allowed to draw with a pencil at all. If you can do that, then the appliqué you’ve imagined can probably be made!

As handmade work, all Asterakia with appliqué are unique.

Here are a few examples. These designs are simple and cost +5 euros. They are basic designs (e.g. a heart, a circle, a little star, etc.) or ready-made knitted little flowers that are simply sewn onto the fabric.

In general, appliqué has very much the look of the handmade (the shape is never perfect and the lines never perfectly straight) and the design cannot have particular details (for something like that we prefer iron-ons).
Also, it’s difficult for an appliqué to be repeated exactly the same (since they’re designed by hand and the fabrics used may no longer be available). Even when we’re asked to repeat a design, small details always change.
