International Babywearing Week 2013 – Exercise with your baby

Amazing hugs!

For the past five years, the babywearing.gr team has been the only official Greek participation in the celebration of International Babywearing Week.

International Babywearing Week 2013Wednesday, 9 October 2013, 16:50 – 18:00 Exercise with your baby!

Exercise workout for mums with baby in a carrierYou’re a mum, you carry your baby in your arms to keep them happy, but you’re also looking for a chance to do something for yourself. Want to try working out together with your baby?

Come along for a wonderful workout programme, specially adapted for babywearers, with low-impact exercises that your baby will love as much as you do! It will give you confidence, show you what you can do TOGETHER with your baby, and you’ll enjoy it so much that you’ll be looking for a chance to do it on your own at home too!

We’ll meet in the outdoor area of the “Mythos tis Thalassas” restaurant at the Divani hotel, in Kavouri, at 16:50 sharp. We’ll start without delay, and the warm-up is important, so don’t be late!!! The event will be led and supervised by Physical Education teacher Pepi Kouaki (mob.: 6973308786).

Exercise for mumsCome even if you don’t have a carrier! – Contact us by Monday 7/10 and we’ll make sure to bring a baby carrier for you to wear!

Come even if you’ve never tried babywearing before! – Before we set off, we’ll make sure together that you’re wearing your baby correctly.

Come even if you’re not very athletic! – The programme has been designed especially for mums who wear their babies, and you can follow along at your own pace, or stop at any moment you wish.

Come even if you lack confidence! – We’re all mums with babies, not athletes or models, but we give it our best try!

Come even if you don’t have company! – You’ll definitely find some there!

Be sure to wear your sports shoes and tracksuit and bring along a small bottle of water, a towel and a hat. And because “excuses don’t burn calories”, this event will take place even if it rains, so don’t slack off!

Notes:

askiseis_gia_mamades1. The programme is aimed at mums with babies 6 weeks and older (12 weeks if you gave birth by caesarean section). Keep in mind that you’ll be wearing your baby for about an hour continuously, so if your baby is over 12 months old, make sure your body can handle it. Don’t come if you have specific instructions from your doctor that you’re not allowed to do even gentle exercise.

2. Experience has shown that the babies have a wonderful time for as long as the programme lasts. It’s very likely that your baby will fall asleep while you exercise. If you’re not breastfeeding, make sure they’ve eaten anyway (because a hungry bear doesn’t sleep)!

3. If this is your first contact with babywearing, we’ll fit you with a baby carrier (ring sling, wrap or mei tai, depending on availability) and you’ll have the chance to see how the feel of that particular carrier suits you (and how much your baby likes it). There won’t be time or the possibility for training/demonstration at that moment. If you’re interested in learning and discussing babywearing and its rules and getting to know the different types of baby carriers better, come a few days later, to the babywearing meet-up.

4. The restaurant will be closed at that time; there are no toilets on site.

5. As always, participation is free and NO sales take place.
