On the Back with a Sarong
This position is suitable for babies who can sit without support (around 6 months). You can use a sarong, a wide stole, or a pashmina. Prefer fabrics that are not stretchy at all.
Note: In the photos below I am already 7 months pregnant and my Vasilis weighs 15 kilos! Yet this position is still one of the most comfortable ones I use for carrying my baby!
1. Get your baby onto your back, whichever way suits you best.
2. Spread the fabric you are using well over your baby’s back and down well below their bottom.
3. Make sure there is enough fabric under the baby’s bottom, then bring one end (on one side) over your shoulder and the other end (on the other side) under your armpit.
4. Tie the two ends in front of your chest (or slightly to the side if that suits you better or if the knot presses against you in front).
5. Make sure the fabric is high up on the baby’s back (up to their armpits) on both sides and that your baby is “sitting” correctly. The baby’s posture in this position should resemble a rider on a horse: with the legs open and the knees at least at the same height as their bottom!
This is a very comfortable position and you can put your baby on this way in seconds!
