Common mistakes and tips for safety and comfort

Fabric on your back:

Your sling should be spread out well across your back. If it is twisted somewhere it will become very uncomfortable for you after a while and will make adjustments harder (you will be pulling the wrong part of the tail for the side you want to tighten).

Position of the rings:

The rings should sit between your shoulder bone and your chest. If they are too high your shoulder will hurt; if they are too low they will press on your chest (this is especially a problem if you are breastfeeding).

Also, with the rings too low, the "pocket" that forms in front of you for your baby to sit in becomes very small!

Fabric on your shoulder:

Your sling should hug the round part of your shoulder. If it is close to your neck it will soon become very tiring! This is especially important for your comfort!

Height of the baby on your body:

When you carry your baby, the lowest part of its body inside the sling (usually its bottom) should reach up to your navel (or higher). If you carry your baby too low it will tire you out soon! You will know your baby is at the right height if you can easily kiss it on the head without having to lean down.

Tensioning the outer edge:

When you carry your baby (especially in the "seated" position), you need to tension the outer (upper) edge of the sling well, so that the baby's body is very close to yours. Do not let your baby "lean" backwards; that is not comfortable at all!

Position and angle of the baby's legs:

When you carry your baby with its legs out of the sling, its legs should be open and bent, not hanging down. This is safer and better for your baby's hips.

Your baby's legs should be almost parallel to the ground and its knees at least at the same level (if not higher) than its bottom. The fabric should reach the back of its knees. This also helps prevent "red marks" from the fabric appearing on your baby's little legs.

Adjusting the tail:

When you take off your sling, loosen it only as much as needed for your baby to come out comfortably. That way the adjustment will be easier next time. When it is about the size you need it, you do not have to pull the whole tail to adjust it for a perfect fit for you and your baby; just pull each end depending on what you want to achieve. Correcting the baby's placement:

One of the frequent questions is how to fix the fabric if it does not reach behind the baby's knees, or what to do if one leg is higher than the other. See the answer in the video below:
