How to carry your baby on your back with a sling carrier (with support on both shoulders for small babies)

This position is suitable for babies who have good head control (from about 3 months old).

See it explained step by step in the video below (with my little daughter, exactly 3 months old):

Notice how, once again, the baby is in the “deep seat” position with the legs spread open, the knees higher than the bottom, and the fabric under the bottom reaching at least to the baby’s knees.

It is an extremely comfortable method and it is completely safe. See how the baby’s weight securely “locks” the rings in the video about adjusting it, here.

Obviously, this method cannot be used with slings that have padding at the edges or at the shoulder, or that have a closed, sewn tail.

It also requires a Ring Sling whose tail is not too short for your height (below the baby’s bottom, the tail should extend at least 15-20 cm beyond the rings). See the same sling worn normally on the front in the photo beside this one.

Note: The classic way to carry your baby on your back with a Ring Sling (a carrier with rings) is suitable for babies from 6.5 months and up (when they can comfortably sit up on their own and properly support their torso), since with that method the support rests on one shoulder. By contrast, the method presented here on this page provides support on both shoulders and can also be used with younger babies. It is a variation of the high back carry with a Wrap (the “rucksack” method), where the rings are used in place of the knot.

Of course, this method could also be used with older babies. In the photos below, using this carrying method, is my older daughter at 8.5 months old.
